Juwel Rana

Juwel Rana is a doctoral candidate in EBOH at McGill University. His research focuses on global environmental health, environmental mixtures, and epidemiologic methods. Juwel is the founder of the SAIST Foundation in Bangladesh and the principal investigator of the Bangladesh Longitudinal Child-Adolescent Development, Education, and Environment Study (BLADES), an ambispective cohort. BLADES follows 2,000 households from marginalized communities in three rural areas with significant agricultural activities, a coal mining region, and four urban slum areas in Bangladesh. BLADES examines the compounded effects of early environmental exposures, psychosocial, lifestyle, socioeconomic, and structural influences on the development, school completion, academic achievement, and health outcomes of children, adolescents, and their mothers. Under Juwel’s leadership, the SAIST Foundation, in collaboration with universities, research institutes, and experts, initiated the South Asian Hub for Climate Change and Health to advance research and capacity on climate change and health in South Asia. In addition to his research endeavors, Mr. Rana serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the McGill Journal of Global Health.
